Mini Post #1; March 3rd 2021; Self-care balance and goals.

In the past, I’ve kept goals with great success in my bullet journal. I’m naturally inclined towards self-improvement and I find it very satisfying to find new ways to improve and learn. My goal creation and completion has been barely existent over the last few months. I think it’s important to my happiness, so I want to start creating goals again.

At the same time, my self-care has been very focused on physical self-care and environmental self-care. Pregnancy forced me to focus a lot on the physical- drinking more water, going to the doctor, taking medications, getting movement, taking actions to reduce my heart rate, etc… At the same time, the coming arrival of a new child into our home also forces one to declutter, organize and make space for the baby. The focus on the physical has been to the detriment of other areas of self-care such as Emotional and Intellectual. I find that with self-care a more holistic approach is needed. I strive for a degree of balance in all the areas. Neglecting any area of self-care inevitably results in negative impacts for me.

As such, I want to start making monthly self-care goals for all the areas of self-care. I’m trying to keep the goal simple- recognizing that nine goals runs the risk of being overwhelming. If I do not succeed with all the goals that is perfectly okay. It’ll probably take several months to develop a better understanding of what I can reasonably expect to accomplish in a month, and my energy and time resources will be constantly changing especially with the baby on the way.

Here are my nine goals for this month:

  1. Physical:  Begin recording sleep and sleep hygiene habits.

  2. Emotional: Finish reading “Permission to Feel”.

  3. Spiritual: Check out a Unitarian Universalist podcast or YouTube channel.

  4. Intellectual: Post at least four mini blog posts. This counts as #1!

  5. Environmental: Declutter items in the hallway.

  6. Security: Setup a baby registry.

  7. Play: Finish organizing all Washi tape and start using it again.

  8. Family: Pick my mom’s brain of all of her knowledge of our family tree.

  9. Social: Remain active on the Slowly penpalling app.

What are your goals this month? Do you have self-care goals?
