February 2020 Update: Life, Disney World, Podcasts, Future Posts

February 2020 Update: Galaxy’s Edge, a sprained ankle, and My Time at Portia.

The last few months have been quite hectic for me and I’ve been slower at getting posts written, so I thought it would be a great time to do a general update post. In this post I will talk about what I’ve been doing, Disney World (including Galaxy’s Edge) and what I’ve been watching, playing and listening to.

Life Update

Back in November, I had some personal health issues (which I will post about eventually) that took up a lot of my time and energy. In December, we took a trip back to Massachusetts to celebrate the holidays. Also in December, my grandfather passed away which has been a big deal for my family. In January, I severely sprained my ankle right before going to Walt Disney World for a week.

Walt Disney World

As usual, Walt Disney World was fantastic. We spent five days there with three friends and stayed on property at Disney’s Pop Century Resort. The main reason for our trip was to check out Galaxy’s Edge. We did all of the things at Galaxy’s Edge: rode Rise of the Resistance (twice), rode Smuggler’s Run (twice), drank Blue (and Green) Milk, tried the weird popcorn, ate at Docking Bay 7 and Ronto Roasters, crafted our own light sabers and built tiny droids. We did most of the major attractions at all the parks. Sadly, Splash Mountain and Test Track were closed and we didn’t get to see Ben in the Frozen Sing-Along. We ate at several quick service and table service restaurants, and if anyone is interested in reviews of those, let me know. I also experienced Disney in a wheelchair for the first time (thanks to that sprained ankle!)

My Time at Portia

In other news, I played My Time at Portia (available for PC on Steam) during its beta release, but until last week, I hadn’t gone back to it after it’s official release. Well, I’m very happy spending a lot of time playing this lovely game. It is reminiscent of Stardew Valley in terms of gameplay, but it is very different in many ways. The graphics are a completely different style. You are mostly a builder, not a farmer, but you do some farming as well. There is mining, fishing, gathering, and combat too. But in each area, My Time at Portia provides a new experience that is definitely its own. My favorite part is the social system. While the mechanics are similar to many other systems (Stardew, Harvest Moon), it is slow-moving and seems to have a lot of payoff. I’m very much looking forward to making my first friend and learning more about one of these intriguing NPCs. I sometimes get a bit overwhelmed with all there is to do, so I started a notebook to organize my thoughts!

I’ve developed a more consistent daily format thanks to stickers and I’m really loving making use of the wide variety of functional stickers one can find on Etsy.
